Bograd’s Fine Furniture
This week we feature Bograd’s Fine Furniture which at its peak became a premier high end furniture retailer in our area. Bograd's was started in Paterson in 1930 by Sam and David Bograd who emigrated from Belarus in the early 1920's. In 1935, the brothers moved their store on Market Street to a four-story building at 288 Main Street. Then in 1948, the store expanded into a one-story building behind what had been the Paterson Opera house. In 1980 they moved to a six-story building next door. In 1996 they moved to Riverdale,N.J. after calling Passaic County their home for six decades. In 2013, the retailer reopened in a smaller-format store at the same Riverdale location under a more modern name, @Bograds. In its final years, Mark Bograd served as president, and his father, Joe, was chief executive until the store finally closed in 2019. Below are photos from our files representing some of Bograd’s history. The photos below were donated by Mark Bograd.
