Eastside High School class of January 1940
We received a lot of positive and surprising responses to yesterday’s “Monthly Memoir.” In a happy twist of fate, we are delighted and thrilled to announce that two more students from the Eastside High School class of January 1940 came forward to tell us that they are alive and well. Estelle Janowsky Friedberg and Joseph Rubinstein are ages 99 1/2 and 101 respectively.
Evelyn Janowsky Freidberg wrote that although she was not well known among the other Jewish students, she was one of the youngest grads in the class along with Bernadine Jasper and David Roth. She had a conventional life, taught school to fifth graders, married and had one daughter. Our memoir fascinated her and she loved it.
Joseph Rubinstein tells us that he is alive and well at 101, lives in Scottsdale, Arizona and was an orthodontist for 50 years in both Paterson and Fair Lawn. Estelle, Joseph, and Sig give us a lot of hope. Till 120

It's now 1945 and the long war is finally over. Most of our servicemen and servicewomen are being mustered out and coming home. The navy officer in the upper left photo is Murray Greene and the army enlisted man in the upper right is his friend, Bill Guttenberg. We must never forget our vets.
