North New Jersey B'nai B'rith Women
North New Jersey B’nai B’rith Women - B'nai B'rith was founded in New York City's Lower East Side on October 13, 1843, by 12 recent German Jewish immigrants led by Henry Jones. It was organized as a secret lodge to confront the terrible living conditions for Jews in their new country. Its initial purpose was to attend to the sick and help the widows and orphans. Its goals later expanded to other Jewish social and political philanthropic ventures, both nationally and internationally.
The first ladies’ auxiliary chapter was formed in San Francisco in 1897, and became “B'nai B'rith Women” In 1909. In 1995, it broke away as an independent organization and is now known as “Jewish Women International" Below are photos from our area communities showing some of the organization’s work and activities.
