The Life and Times of Leonard Bernstein

A Zoom Presentation by Marty Schneit
In one of his best presentations to date, Marty will feature the life of Leonard Bernstein. Bernstein is considered one of the most important conductors of his time. He was a celebrated composer, pianist, educator, author, philanthropist and humanitarian.
The first American-born conductor to receive international fame, Bernstein conquered every medium he touched – conducting, composing, Broadway shows, and education. Marty’s discussion will include Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts with the NY Philharmonic which are the longest-running series of family concerts of classical music in the world; conducting Mahler’s Resurrection, composing musical scores for Broadway blockbusters Fancy Free and West Side Story and the Oscar-winning film On The Waterfront, as well as The Berlin Celebration Concert, for the fall of the Berlin Wall, among the highlights.
Marty Schneit, a lifetime New Yorker, is a NYC tour guide and historian. He has lectured at many institutions and organizations throughout New York City. Marty previously presented “An Unexpected Slice of the Big Apple,” and “Jewish Harlem” to the Jewish Historical Society.
